EARNING A
CAT BELT
The last section of this
book contains material designed to sustain a
CAT beyond nine lives. Why be limited by an
old saying? Our thesis is that you can start
with any one of the nine lives and live it
more fully and in so doing you can increase
your level of personal innovation and life
satisfaction. You can also build innovation
into your life in a disciplined way and earn
a CAT belt. The CAT belt is simply a fun way
to recognize achievement in developing the
skills and competencies that are at the
foundation of innovation.
To become a first-degree
cat belt in innovation you must master one
of the lives and in so doing counteract one
of the challenges. A second-degree cat belt
requires mastery of a second life that will
address a second challenge and so on. Master
at least four lives that address each of the
four challenges and you are entitled to a
fourth degree cat belt in innovation.
To achieve the highest
level, a fifth degree cat belt, you must
guide at least 10 students to acquisition of
a fourth-degree cat belt. Once you achieve
the fifth degree cat belt you can be called
“Wiskers.” You can choose to use “Wiskers”
as your first, last or middle name or add it
after your name like a degree. Dr. Stephen
C. Lundin Ph.D. Wiskers at your service.
When you approach a group of students they
must all meow in acknowledgement of your
high and respected status in the world of
CATS

The
only source of innovation in
business is the individual employee!
When workers become more innovative,
organizations become more
innovative.
Success in business is the result of
the annual production of thousands
of acts of innovation, both big and
little. We call the big ones
breakthroughs. We call the little
ones continuous improvement. It is
rare that you know ahead of time
whether the impact of any given act
of innovation will large or small
and both are crucial to a successful
enterprise.
Innovation at its core is comprised
of individual acts. And the
curriculum for these individual acts
is The Nine Lives of Innovation.
Why
not provide yourself or your team
with the tools needed to fulfill
your destiny?
